What Is Repentance? edition by Joseph Dearing Samuel C Gipp Religion Spirituality eBooks

The subject of repentance has been both a source of confusion and contention for quite awhile. Some say that repentance is absolutely necessary before salvation can occur. Others teach that one need only repeat a prayer and salvation is a foregone conclusion. Worse yet, both groups seldom go to the Bible to see what it teaches about the subject. Instead, they draw their conclusions first and then go to whatever passages they can use to reinforce what they teach and preach.
In this little booklet Joseph Dearing, a truly serious student of the Bible, goes to the Bible in an objective manner to identify just what biblical repentance really is. Then, remarkably he explains it in an amazingly short treatise which is both easy to read and understand. I believe anyone who reads this work with an honest heart will come away saying Dearing did his subject justice with openness and objectivity.

He's got a few good points, but unfortunately he falls in line with the notion that repentance is just "turning from unbelief to belief". He also ignores such passages as I Thessalonians 1:9 which shows that repentance does involves a general turning from sin to God. He also completely misses the point of Acts 22:21, which plainly shows that repentance is different from faith. They are not the same as the author claims, but rather two sides of the same coin [salvation] working hand-in-hand together--i.e. while you're doing one you're doing the other. I do not recommend this book for anyone new to the faith. He's done better books than this. And there are far better books out there on this topic--such as the one by Harry Ironside,
